Position Summary:
The full-time position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the campus grounds at Belmont College. This position plays a key role in creating a welcoming and well-kept environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include routine summer landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, and leaf and debris removal and routine winter tasks such as snow plowing and sidewalk/road maintenance. The Groundskeeper will also assist the facilities and maintenance team with basic maintenance tasks as needed, such as minor repairs, painting, etc. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and able to work independently or as part of a team in a variety of outdoor and indoor settings. The nature of the work requires that this individual be self-motivated, able to work and perform well in a multi-task environment, and able to work with little or no supervision.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lawn Care and Maintenance
- Mow, edge, and trim grass using hand and power equipment.
- Plant and Garden Maintenance
- Plant and care for flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Mulch flower beds and remove weeds.
- Prune bushes and small trees as directed.
- Leaf and Debris Removal
- Rake and dispose of leaves, branches, and litter from campus grounds.
- Empty outdoor trash cans and recycling bins.
- Sweep or blow walkways, parking lots, and entryways.
- Seasonal Duties
- Assist with snow and ice removal (e.g., shoveling, spreading salt/sand).
- Prepare grounds for seasonal changes, including covering plants or removing dead growth.
- Basic Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Safely operate lawnmowers, string trimmers, blowers, and other groundskeeping tools or snow removal equipment.
- Clean and perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Report malfunctions or damage to supervisors.
- Campus Beautification Projects
- Help install or maintain signage, benches, and decorative features.
- Support special landscaping or campus improvement projects.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazardous conditions or suspicious activity on campus grounds.
- Team Collaboration
- Work as part of a team under the direction of a supervisor.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public as needed.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Provide support during campus events by setting up outdoor spaces if/when needed.
- Assist facilities or maintenance departments with basic tasks as needed.
Physical Requirements:

Position Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
It is expected that the applicant has experience in at least some of the following fields: electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction, grounds keeping, snow removal, and custodial.
Normal hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm, but must be flexible as needed for snow removal, weekends as needed, and College events.
This person must also have basic computer skills, such as using an iPad to answer facility ticket concerns.
Two years of experience in a commercial building.
This individual must have a valid Ohio driver license.
