Completion of the eighth grade and the ability to follow oral and written instructions; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.

A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required. This is manual and semi-skilled work maintaining County buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment in the Facilities Management Department.

An employee assigned to this classification performs manual work involving a variety of tasks including cleaning, moving furniture and equipment, making simple repairs on buildings and equipment, and the general maintenance of grounds and shrubbery.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.

Exudes a positive customer service focus.

Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication.

Makes simple repairs to buildings and equipment.

Performs simple preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.

Replaces light bulbs.

Installs office equipment; moves and assembles office furniture and equipment to manufacturer's instructions.
Moves office furniture and equipment from place to place as directed.

Mows and rakes lawns, trims hedges, prunes shrubbery, gathers debris; maintains clean grounds area.

Assists Building Mechanics in advanced skilled tasks.

Monitors and performs janitorial services, including occasional floor care; utilizes checklist and daily inspections to review work performed.

Prepares routine reports as required.

Performs routine courier tasks.

Drives a County and/or personal vehicle to perform required duties.

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in janitorial work.

Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in carpentry and painting.

Skill in caring for and maintaining lawns, shrubs, and grounds often under adverse conditions.

Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.

Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.

Ability to recognize obvious safety hazards.

Ability to communicate in writing through simple logs and reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public.

The noise level in the work environment usually ranges from moderate to loud.
