Whale's Tail Bartender (Anchorage) The Hotel Captain Cook 939 West 5th Avenue near I Street compensation: DOE employment type: experience level: mid level job title: Whale's Tail Bartender Job Description: Part-Time Bartender at The Whale's Tail, Hotel Captain Cook Summary of Position: The Bartender is responsible for crafting and serving cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and quality standards, while ensuring compliance with all liquor laws and regulations. In addition to bar service, they take orders for and serve food to guests in or around the bar area. The Combination Bartender ensures accurate billing by properly taking orders, charging customers, collecting payments, tracking and retaining guest receipts, and maintaining an accurate cash bank. They are responsible for accurately closing out at the end of their shift, depositing the cash bank, and picking up their bank each day. Additional duties include preparing garnishes, maintaining the stock of all bar items, washing and sanitizing glassware to local health code standards, greeting guests, assisting with seating, maintaining the general cleanliness of the restaurant, and stocking items necessary for service to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Key Responsibilities: oService & Guest Interaction -Prepare and serve beverages, upselling premium items and menu specials -Take and serve food orders, when applicable -Greet guests, respond to requests or complaints promptly and professionally -Monitor guest behavior to ensure responsible alcohol service (cut off or 86 guests as needed) -Assist in seating or cleaning tables if support staff is unavailable - Maintain a clean and welcoming bar area throughout the shift oBar Operations & Setup -Ensure the bar is fully stocked and prepped with necessary tools and ingredients (e.g., garnishes, napkins, juices, mixers, bar tools) -Wash and sanitize glassware according to health code standards -Unlock and inventory liquor, prepare fresh juices, cut fruit, and set up bar mix/snacks -Track and maintain accurate liquor inventory oSafety & Cleanliness -Inspect bar and surrounding areas for cleanliness, safety hazards, and items needing repair -Follow all hotel safety, sanitation, and grooming standards oCash Handling & POS -Pick up, maintain, and deposit cash bank daily -Process guest payments accurately and make change -Use Squirrel POS System proficiently for order entry and billing -Ensure compliance with accounting and cash handling procedure oTeam Coordination & Communication -Supervise bar support staff (cocktail servers, bar backs) during shift -Answer phone calls and assist with guest special requests -Communicate with Food & Beverage Director, Executive Chef, and other departments (Accounting, Liquor Room, Security, Maintenance, Housekeeping) as needed oOther -Be available and prepared for scheduled shifts Perform other duties as assigned.
