Custodian I

The Custodian position is responsible for the effective, efficient and safe custodial practices throughout school buildings and grounds. This position ensures the campus looks its best and is safe for students, staff, faculty and guests. Position Accountabilities

• Cleans assigned facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, break rooms, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
• Maintains facility cleanliness (e.g. sweep, mop, dust, polish, buff, wax, shampoo, wash, etc.) for the purpose of providing a clean, sanitary environment conductive to learning.
• Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, paper towels, soap, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of custodial items required to properly maintain facilities.
• Performs summer maintenance (e.g. strip/wax floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of completing and/or facilitation of summer construction and/or preparation for the following year.

Position Requirements:

• High School graduate or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous custodial experience preferred.
• Knowledge of methods of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies used in custodial and cleaning work.
• Knowledge of routine hand and power tools
• Ability to follow assigned schedules.
• Ability to estimate quantity and types of materials and supplies needed.
• Ability to maintain simple records and prepare routine reports.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written records in English.
• Ability to maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and reach, and perform repetitive movements, such as vacuuming or mopping requires.
• Ability to use a ladder to change out light bulbs.

• Ability to perform work in a safe manner.
