General Description:

The purpose of this job is to perform limited semi-skilled manual labor using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment in the maintenance of general commercial buildings and grounds.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Perform electrical maintenance including: repair and replace lights, outlets and other electrical fixtures.
Perform plumbing maintenance such as: repairing water lines, commodes, faucets, and replace valves and sewer lines.
Perform maintenance on buildings which includes; painting, replacing ceiling tiles, and replace carpet. May perform general maintenance on HVAC systems.
Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools.
Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Requires one (1) year of experience in commercial maintenance, manual labor, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Demands:

Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):

Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
-Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
-Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
-Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
-Traffic; Moving machinery.
-Electrical shock; Heights.
