Seasonal Water/Wastewater Maintenance Worker

The City of Johnston seeks Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Worker to perform diverse tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of city water and wastewater system, and the provision of scheduled and emergency services within the Public Works Department.

The position will include but not limited to:

• Sand, paint, and operate public fire hydrants.
• Operate light and medium duty trucks with trailers, tractors, weed trimmers, and other hand tools as used in assigned work.
• Work on or near roadway and within city right-of-way.
• Spreads and levels earth, sand and gravel using public works vehicles, hand and power tools; lifts, carries and holds materials, cleans tools, equipment, materials and work areas.
• Cleans, inspects, and repairs, manholes, culverts and storm drains using public works equipment, hand and power tools.
• Erects barricades, fences and rails to protect the public from hazardous conditions.
• Clean and maintain Public Works equipment, buildings, grounds and city facilities
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have a valid Iowa Drivers License
• Drug Screen and Background check required
• Position requires work to be performed in various outdoor environmental conditions
• Steel Toed shoes are required

Hours and work schedule:

• Up to 40 hrs per week. Possible over-time
• M-F 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
• Mid May Mid August Potential for earlier start date and later ending date depending on season
