Th is position is responsible for the upkeep, care and maintenance of grounds on campus property throughout the year, by performing assigned grounds keeping duties, It is the intention of this position to provide the campus and surrounding community with an inviting environment that lends to the recruitment, teaching, learning and living experience at Cedar Crest College, Employees of Cedar Crest College must possess excellent customer service skills and have an overall concern for the general welfare and safety of the college and community.

Cedar Crest Colleges Facilities Department has overall responsibility to provide the best possible environment for education and student living.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential:

  • This job requires the use of specialized and power equipment

  • Always obey all safety requirements and procedures

  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use

  • Secure the work area and post proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work Equipment troubleshooting

  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance

  • Establish work priorities

  • Completes and fill-out work orders in a timely manner

  • Respond to on-call and after-hours emergencies

  • Cuts grass, using power mowers or hand tools

  • Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and buildings, using clippers, weed cutters, and edging tools 12. Weeds flower beds, around shrubbery, or any required area

  • Trims and shapes trees and shrubs to improve growth or to remove damaged leaves or branches, using pruning tools as required

  • Removes leaves by using rakes and power equipment

  • Removes branches, brush, or tree stumps, as required

  • Daily monitoring of campus areas for litter, and debris removal 17. Snow and ice removal from driveways and walks, using power equipment and hand tools as required 18. Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs, using proper tools and equipment

  • Sprays Lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides, using hand and/or automatic

  • sprayer

  • Hauls, moves, and stores equipment and supplies. Cleans storage areas as needed Operates all power equipment and hand tools in a safe, cautious manner. Wears protective safety glasses, shoes, respirators, clothing, etc. as requited

  • Ability to operate trucks, tractors, mowers, front-end loaders, and other required equipment

  • Position is considered essential personnel and is required to provide various duties and maintenance services during and outside normal working hours and during institution closures; and duties associated with emergencies, scheduled and unscheduled events

Marginal:

  • Event set-ups and moves support as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by supervision of management

Education and Training:

  • 1 years experience in the trade

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Current Pesticide Applicators License preferred

Knowledge/Skills / Abilities:

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to read and understand basic drawings and blueprints

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft word, internet, email applications, etc.)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Able to walk or stand for long periods of time

  • Able to climb ladders and scaffolding to perform work

  • Able to work up to 85 feet off the ground on a lift

  • Able to reach, bend, push and/or hold objects on a regular basis

  • Able to lift 50 pounds and carty it 75 feet

Complexity:

  • Able to complete work under time and scheduling constraints

Interpersonal/Supervisory / Management Skills:

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate with a diverse community

  • Self-motivated and personally accountable

  • Interact with the college community
