Reports to: Chef Manager
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours of Work: 15-20 hours per week
Schedule: Sat & Sun. Occasional weekday.
Start Date: TBD
Posting Date: March 26 th , 2025
- Provides support and assistance in the kitchen forinternal and external YWCA food services for childcare, transitional housingresidents, the YWCA cafe and social enterprise catering;
- Provides front of house customer service;
- Prepares food for display cases in cafe;
- Able to promote and cross sell menu items;
- Assists with food preparation and cookingactivities in the YWCA Cafe and YWCA catering;
- Prepares menu items according to recipescreated by Head Chef/Sous Chef;
- Assists with serving meals;
- Operates large and small kitchen appliances,including maintenance;
- Assists Head Chef/Sous Chef with receiving,inventory, and stocking shelves;
- Performs general housekeeping duties such aswashing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing, emptying garbage bins;
- Performs catering duties for special events;
- Contributes to building and supporting thekitchen/cafe team by helping where needed, using professional and respectfullanguage, attending team meetings as required;
- Ensures compliance with the Health Protectionand Promotion Act;
- Works safely and reports all workplacehazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies andprocedures;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision andvalues;
- Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works 37.50 hours work week for FT or 15-29hours work week for PT;
- Ability to use frequent light to mediumphysical effort: lifting up to 22 kg, bending and stooping;
- Various shifts of days, afternoons, eveningsand weekends.
Qualifications
- Experiencein food service, retail or hospitality is an asset;
- Cashhandling experience and Smart Serve are assets;
- Musthave Safe Food Handling certificate or willing to obtain at own time and cost;
- Mustprovide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willingnessto obtain at own cost;
- Musthave current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate or willingness to obtainat own cost;
- Abilityto bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to day to daywork;
- Abilityto work a schedule with various shifts;
- ValidClass G Drivers License an asset;
- BilingualEnglish/French or other languages an asset.
