The Grounds Department at Saint Johns University invites applications for a non-exempt, seasonal position of Provisional Groundskeeper.

This position works under the direction of the Head Groundskeeper and other full-time staff.

Generally, Monday through Friday, 20-30 hours per week, May September depending on weather.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

Responsibilities

Assist the Grounds Department in all aspects of grounds maintenance, including:

  • Turf management and mowing
  • Operation of landscaping equipment
  • Trash and debris removal
  • Shrub maintenance
  • Light tree care
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
    • High school diploma preferred
    • Ability and experience operating landscape maintenance machinery, Including:
      • zero turn mowers
      • chain saw
      • hedge trimmer
      • other small landscape tools
      • skid steer (preferred)
    • Punctual and reliable attendance when assigned to work
    • Valid Class D drivers license required
    • DOT health card or ability to obtain one preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to tolerate working in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
    • May be sitting/operating equipment for long periods of time.
    • Ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods, including lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching, squatting, standing, etc. as required.
    • Ability to perform the physical duties of the position, including working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain, walking long distances, and lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
