General Statement of Job

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general maintenance duties with a focus on Electrical. Requires being on-call during rotating nights and weekends for emergency assistance due to maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment for the college. Performs other related duties as required. Reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities Services.

Essential Job Functions

Performs Electrical maintenance duties which include all related commercial electricity. Includes replacing electrical devices, installing new electrical systems, and maintain old electrical systems.

Performs routine/preventative maintenance on variety of systems. Duties include checking electrical utilities inside and outside of the buildings to determine if they are functioning properly.

Maintains records as required including operating a computer-based work order system. Maintains procurement card related sales receipts.

Operates and/or utilizes a variety of types of equipment upon completion of proper training. Equipment includes: forklift, scissor life, aerial platform, generator, electric welder, gas torch, mechanics tools, electrical tools and equipment, campus vehicles, etc. Must possess and maintain a valid N.C. driver's license and complete CDL training within a first year of employment.

Performs on call service on rotating nights and weekends for emergency assistance due to maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment for the college, which includes checking all facilities for proper operation on weekends and holidays.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs a variety of general maintenance duties such as: removing broken tree limbs from trees, unloading trucks, assisting carpenter and HVAC as needed, performing duties during inclement weather which requires, but is not limited to, storm clean up, storm notification or evacuation, and snow removal which may be required to be done during times the school is closed due to the inclement weather.

Qualifications or Standards Vocational/technical school education in electrical or a related maintenance field, or four years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have an acceptable criminal background check. Must have an acceptable drivers record check. Must attend required safety training. Must be willing to use proper safety equipment and follow proper safety procedures.

Minimum Training and Experience Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle as well as a variety of types of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and construction equipment. Must be physically able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; work involves standing, walking, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing frequently and/or constantly. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor. Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents and reports. Requires the ability to prepare documents and reports such as general letters of correspondence (email), using the proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, etc. Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, students, vendors, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence. Intelligence: Has the ability to apply principles of rational systems such as HVAC, electrical, and mechanical, etc., in order to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; and determine time and weight. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated equipment. Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)
