POSITION SUMMARY
The position performs activities to ensure the readiness and safety of the indoor and outdoor recreation facilities operated and maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Not all duties may be assigned to each position. The allocation of duties for this position will be dependent upon the department/division assigned and qualification of assigned work/equipment.
- Performs ongoing inspections on exterior spaces. Establishes priority maintenance needs and forwards to supervisor for consideration.
- Performs maintenance such as repairs to fences, benches, picnic tables, garbage cans, signs, shelters and any other existing structures.
- Maintains walking trails with concrete or asphalt patches; ensures trail is clear of any obstructions.
- Controls and manages invasive vegetation in and around parks and greenways.
- Prunes healthy trees using proper pruning techniques. Removes dead or hazardous trees in the parks. Removes fallen leaves.
- Performs landscape maintenance, including mowing and string trimming, edging and mulching beds, weeding, watering, fertilizing, turf renovation and pruning.
- Installs plant material and hardscapes.
- Performs playground maintenance to existing playgrounds. Maintains borders and surfacing materials. Assists with the repair and replacement of playground equipment at the playground, under the supervision of a certified playground safety inspector.
- Operates maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, field drag, lawn mower, utility tractor, string trimmer, chain saw, pole saw, dump truck, sod cutter, chemical sprayer, tiller, bush hog, Zamboni, floor scrubber, Kaivac, vacuum, etc.
- Ensures parks restrooms, picnic shelters and recreation areas are clean and in working order.
- Maintains appearance of all parks to ensure the areas are free of litter, trash, fallen tree limbs and other debris.
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs minor maintenance or repair to equipment.
- Opens the Recreation facility and prepares it for the scheduled events.
- Daily cleaning of entire rink facility, fitness center, aquatic center, and Rec Complex. Maintains and cleans all areas of the building and grounds.
- Prepares meeting rooms, insuring cleanliness and appropriate equipment setup and availability for clients and patrons.
- Maintains up-to-date records of all maintenance activities.
- Maintains accurate chemical application records as required by State and Federal laws. Assists in the proper storage of chemicals and ensure compliance with all chemical label instructions. Follows all worker protection directives, especially Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
- Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
- Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and time sheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs, and other pertinent information.
- Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
- Reports to work for on-call after hours needs, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma/equivalent.
- Previous experience in public works construction or equipment operation preferred.
- Valid driver license.
- Ability to obtain the required Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement within three (3) months from date of hire.
