Choate Rosemary Hall has an opening for a Building Maintenance Technician. This role is responsible for providing general repair and maintenance services to the Choate Rosemary Hall community. This role is a full-time position, benefit eligible position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs routine general maintenance to include but not limited to: interior and exterior painting, interior and exterior maintenance and general repairs; including campus roofing and gutter systems, maintenance and repair to building ceilings, walls, doors, windows, and floors.
- Responsible for completing assigned work orders.
- Provide services necessary for seasonal turnover of dormitories and faculty residences to prepare for the opening of school and new employee arrivals/move-ins.
- Provide services that meet building codes and generally accepted construction standards.
- Participates in on-call rotation; provides support and service for school events that may include evening and weekend hours.
- Follows all applicable OSHA and NFPA codes/standards in the shop and on campus. (i.e. confined space entry, ladder safety, etc.).
- Maintains shop and all work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
- Provide maintenance of campus roofing and gutter systems.
- Ability to understand and follow all applicable safety guidelines.
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Assist with emergency preparedness for storms, building damage prevention, and other possible events that may impact campus buildings.
- Participate in the 24/7 rotational on call program. Report when available and called on for emergency service that may include evening and weekend hours.
- Participate in continuing education to improve knowledge base.
- Assist with the overseeing activities of outside contractors.
- Assist with the operation of the lock shop.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: High school degree or equivalent. Additional trade school or continuing education preferred.
Prior experience: 1 year experience in a maintenance trade.
Licenses & Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license.
Specialized training in:
- Understanding of OSHA General Industry standards. 30-hour certification or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to operate all large equipment typically found in a complete carpentry shop such as table saw, band saw, panel saw, drill press etc.

- Quality control-demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
