Position Summary
Join the housekeeping team that maintains clean and enjoyable living and recreation areas for Wisconsin veterans!
Custodians at WVHK are responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and sanitizing tasks in occupied and unoccupied patient rooms, common areas and offices, to maintain a homelike environment for the residents of our facility. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning toilets, showers, and furniture; floor care; operating automatic cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, sweepers, and carpet cleaning machines; shoveling snow; and replacing light bulbs.

Salary Information
Starting wage is $16.18 per hour, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime, plus an attractive employee benefits package.
Sign-on bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires. The first $1000 will be paid in the employee's first paycheck and the second $1000 will be paid when the employee attains permanent status.
Custodian is in pay schedule-pay range 03-08. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
Custodians at WVHK work a standard 8-hour shift Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus rotating weekends. WVHK is filling part-time and full-time openings.
Part-time positions work less than five days a week. Full-time positions require availability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include holidays and overtime.
Job duties require climbing, reaching and bending; performing sustained physical activity; performing heavy work, including occasionally exerting more than 100 pounds of force; operating loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; and working on ladders and/or scaffolding.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Qualifications

- cleaning and using cleaning products; and
- following written and verbal instructions including work assignment changes; and
- working cooperatively and communicating with others; and
- following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment, including when using chemical agents; and/or
- performing custodial tasks and using custodial equipment and tools; and/or
- following sanitizing procedures and using chemical sanitizing agents; and/or
- problem solving
