QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in the custodial trade including the use of cleaning materials and working knowledge of modern cleaning methods, equipment, tools, and materials
- Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies
- Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to use modern equipment, tools, and materials used in custodial duties with skill and efficiency.
- Ability to perform heavy work for an extended period.
- Ability to understand and follow a work schedule and written directions.
- Knowledge of accepted custodial procedures and methods.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
- Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
- Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean district or school facilities (i.e., classrooms, offices, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, attractive environment.
- Perform daily operations, as applicable to work hours, (i.e., opening/closing gates, building access doors, arming/disarming security systems, raising/lowering flags, move wheeled crosswalk signs, conduct minor maintenance repairs, etc.) to ensure the facility is operational and safe for students and staff.
- Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork, and other equipment.
- Pick up trash and other unsightly items and sweep walks/entrances in immediate area surrounding school facility.
- Clean, disinfect, and reset restrooms.
- Clean windows, door glass, and drinking fountains.
- Clean and polish metalwork such as door panels and hand railings.
- Empty and reset waste containers.
- Move or rearrange chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment.
- Replace light bulbs.
- Make minor repairs or adjustments, when applicable, to classroom furniture.
- Utilize a provided computer tablet to scan QR codes, write/send work texts, check work email, and photograph work areas as needed.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the supervisor.
- Inspect equipment, before use, for safety and operational condition, and perform preventive maintenance or recommend replacement action to Lead Custodian and/or Custodial Area Supervisor.
- Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate custodial safety concerns.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds. The employee may ascend/descend ladders and walk and/or stand for extended periods. The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee will be expected to wear a district-provided work shirt during scheduled work hours.
Work is indoors and outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to noise, dust, gas and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times.
Work duties may be performed solely or in collaboration with a team. Work shifts may be morning, afternoon, and/or night and may vary upon request. Will have contact with employees, students, and public. Will have contact with employees, students, and public.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The Custodian reports to the Custodial Area Supervisor. The Custodian will interact cooperatively with Site Administrator and all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
INITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN: Starting at 15.35 per hour
WORK YEAR: 12 Months/8 hours. Work hours: 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM
