Under close supervision, maintains the cleanliness of City buildings and facilities including outside restrooms, assists with city special events, sound systems, playgrounds, aquatic areas and performs related duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness of restrooms in City buildings and public areas. Disinfects areas and restocks restroom supplies including paper towels, soap and toilet paper.
- Performs routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, fixing water leaks, leaking faucets and water fountains.
- Mops floors and vacuums or cleans rugs. Empties trash.
- Dusts or cleans furniture, appliances, fixtures, pictures and lights. Washes windows.
- Pressure cleans windows, buildings, playground equipment, etc.
- Operates, maintains, utilizes and works with common tools, equipment, materials and/or supplies associated with custodial work.
- Changes light bulbs and troubleshoots minor electrical problems.
- Repairs and replaces doors, doorknobs, locks or hardware, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls, paints, etc.
- Moves furniture, sets up weddings, special events, etc. Assists with special events.
- Assists with equipment set-up and takedown and operation for special events including stage, bleachers, tents and sound system.
- May assist with pool and fountain maintenance.
- May assist with playground maintenance
- Inspects work of cleaning service and prepares exception reports.
- Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices at all times.
- Maintains files on work performed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of custodial practices and procedures including occupational hazards and safety practices related to custodial work and building maintenance.
- Knowledge of custodial equipment and tools.
- Ability to safely operate assigned tools and equipment including vehicles.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to follow and complete oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work including the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Exposure to potential physical harm, dangerous machinery, infectious disease, and hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy or bulky items frequently (up to 100 lbs.).
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Common hand and power tools including paint brushes, screwdrivers, hammers, plungers, rakes, shovels, pressure washers, paint sprayer, pool equipment and custodial tools (brooms, mops, etc.).
- City vehicle (truck or van).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The equivalent of six (6) months of commercial custodial, building maintenance or related experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid Florida Drivers License.
- Certified Pool Operator preferred.
