Performs intermediate manual work cleaning and maintaining buildings and facilities, performing basic grounds maintenance work, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; physical ability to perform heavy manual work; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in custodial work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
- Dusts City offices and buildings; cleans furniture as needed.
- Washes windows, walls, woodwork, and bathroom fixtures; cleans window blinds.
- Vacuums and cleans carpets, removes stains; mops floors.
- Cleans and ensures adequate stock of supplies for restrooms and locker rooms.
- Changes light bulbs; checks fire extinguishers; changes air conditioner filters.
- Waters plants inside and outside the buildings.
- Helps set up building and rooms for activities and special events.
- Cleans water coolers and fountains, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee area, and other kitchen equipment; cleans and stocks refreshment areas.
- Gathers and disposes of refuse, litter, and trash; takes out recycling.
- Sweeps sidewalks and keeps sidewalks and doors free of leaves and debris.
- Keeps equipment clean and orderly; orders supplies and maintains inventory for general housekeeping.
