Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Custodian supports the district's mission by performing a wide variety of general custodial services for the purpose of providing a safe and sanitary learning environment and enabling full educational use of district facilities at all times.
Terms of Employment: Full-Time, 260 days per year; the current work schedule is Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the district.
This position is covered by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The successful candidate for this position must be fingered. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and clearance by Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties will vary based on the assignment, and may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Vacuum, dust, mop, sweep, clean windows and walls, clean bathrooms, pick up and empty trash/recycling, change lights, fill soap and paper product containers
Perform deep cleaning of high-traffic and high-occupancy areas as necessary
Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs to furniture and fixtures as needed
Set up, take down and/or move a wide variety of equipment and furniture for events, assemblies, food service, public use of school facilities, and other functions
Secure and/or lock building doors according to established procedures
Perform major cleaning of facilities during designated school breaks, including floor finishes, furniture, equipment and minor repairs to prepare buildings for the return of students and staff
Transport various items using the district-owned vehicle to ensure availability of materials required at a job site
Assist maintenance personnel with painting as needed
Assist other maintenance and/or custodial personnel as required to ensure an effective and efficient work environment
Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, andmunity partners
Attend required trainings
Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and traits of a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a safe and professional work environment
Provide a safe learning environment for all students
Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position
Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
A valid CPR card, or the ability to obtain a valid card upon hire, is required
Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record
Successfulpletion of a basic skills assessment may be required prior to offer of employment
Kledge, Skills, and Abilities
Kledge of appropriate methods, procedures, materials, and safety practices required to perform general custodial duties
Ability to operate a variety of cleaning equipment and tools required to perform the functions of the position
Ability to perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions for the safe, appropriate operation and use of products and equipment
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the position
Demonstrated ability tomunicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse population of staff, students, families, andmunity members while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor and supporting an atmosp of warmth, cooperation and service to others
Demonstrated ability to treat all staff, students, parents, andmunity members with dignity
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students and staff
Strong self-initiative with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a flexible and cooperative manner in order to build and maintain effective teams and partnerships

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity are required
Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds with assistance
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Salary: The current starting wage is $25.00 per hour after successfulpletion of a probationary period of 60 working days/480 hours of employment (whichever is less). The probationary wage is $22.50 per hour. Pay rates tafter are based on the SEIU Salary Schedule.
Benefits: This position is eligible for a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their qualified dependents. Employer-paid basic life, long-term disability, and AD & D insurance are available to the employee only. Additional benefits include retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement and optional supplemental benefits including supplemental life, long-term disability, FSA, DCAP, and deferredpensation. Paid leave benefits include two (2) days of personal leave and twelve (12) days of sick leave per school year, pro-rated based on the employee's hire date. Twelve paid holidays include: Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, the day preceding Christmas; New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and 4th of July. Additional available paid leave benefits and terms of paid holidays areerned by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
