General Statement of Duties

The Medical Receptionist facilitates the smooth transition of patients through the medical facility and performs a variety of critical tasks that support the efficient, effective, and financially sustainable operation of the FQHC medical Center. This position ensures an orderly and welcoming atmosphere in the clinic.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Embrace the philosophy, mission, and values of La Pine Community Health Center
  • Communicate with patients in a warm, courteous, and professional manner
  • Schedules patients in accordance with established provider schedules and health center procedure
  • Records no-shows and cancelations in system and in patient records, and routes patient messages to appropriate clinic staff
  • Obtains and/or verifies that current demographic information is accurate and updates information in the system as needed
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and ensures correct visit filing order, following established health center procedures
  • Create accounts for new patients
  • Routes phone calls to the appropriate party or takes complete, accurate messages
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality
  • Advises patients about health center policies related to scheduling, payments, and no-shows, among other topics. Answers questions as needed and reminds patients to bring required financial and/or insurance documentation
  • Checks patients in and out, collects payments
  • Ensures end-of-day reports and balances cash drawer are conducted accurately
  • Overall responsible for maintenance of the waiting room
  • Adhere to HIPAA policies and regulations
  • Comply with OSHA regulations as well as all health center safety standards
  • Meets with manager weekly/biweekly
  • Responsible for clinic closure signage
  • Reconcile daily payments and prepare deposits if necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products: Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • Prior education or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with health insurance and/or medical billing processes

Physical Demands Required to Fulfill Essential Functions of this Position

Employee must be able to: sit or stand for long periods of time; focus on tasks while in an active office environment where conversation and noise is prevalent; operate a keyboard, write, speak, and hear; read small print both on paper and on a computer screen for long periods of time and, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and follow confidentiality policies to protect organizational information

  • Work beyond normal working hours, including weekends, if applicable and when required

Working Conditions

There may be exposure to airborne and blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous materials. This position may include working remotely.
