Job SummaryDepartment Summary:
Michigan Recreation at the University of Michigan is dedicated to fostering a healthy lifestyle through engagement, leadership, and active participation. The department manages several programs, four indoor facilities, three outdoor field complexes, and an adventure-based education center. The department plays a vital role in campus life and well-being with a team of 40+ full-time staff members and 650+ student employees. Established in 1913, it is recognized as one of the first collegiate recreation programs. It was the first to develop a facility specifically for student recreation, the Intramural Sports Building, which opened in 1928. Michigan Recreation operates within the Division of Student Life, reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Life for Health and Wellness.
Position Summary:
The Groundskeeper will help manage the overall maintenance and upkeep of Mitchell Field, Hubbard Field, Palmer Field, and the Sports Coliseum. This position helps to prepare these facilities for general programmatic use by Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and facility rentals. Assistance is also provided for facility maintenance projects in the other Michigan Recreation facilities.
Responsibilities*- Maintain grounds by mowing, weeding, cultivating, raking, trimming, edging, and pruning shrubs, grass, or plant ground cover
- Load/unload trucks and transport refuse or other materials
- Field painting, dragging, and grooming
- Sports field preparation (bleachers, soccer goals, rugby goals)
- Event set up (tables, chairs, canopies, sports balls)
- Laundry cleaning
- Changing garbage
- The ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 lbs, and routinely carry/transport supplies like fertilizer, topsoil, and gardening tools around the worksite.
- The ability to position oneself to perform a wide range of physical activities, including lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and reaching, including around obstacles
- The ability to effectively communicate with and follow instructions from co-workers, supervisors, customers, and facility managers
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Ability to do repetitive tasks
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

Working Conditions:
Work will primarily be outdoors, 20-40 hours per week, Monday through Sunday. Work hours will be scheduled between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requires the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 lbs, and transport them around the worksite. Daily, requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching, along with prolonged walking or standing.
Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment and applicants for this position will not be sponsored for work visas.
