ABOUT THIS POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Custodian / Janitor is responsible for performing custodial, general maintenance, and grounds-keeping duties for the Connecticut Junior Republic buildings and grounds in Litchfield.
Daily cleaning of residential cottages
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
Gather and empty trash
Service, clean, and supply restrooms, lavatories, and showers
Dust furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, equipment and polish metal fixtures or trimmings
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
Follow cleaning schedules, quality control standards, and complete assigned work in a timely manner
Daily building checks
Perform outdoor work related to facility cleanliness such as picking up litter and sweeping steps and sidewalks
Report damaged or non-working equipment to Supervisor or Facilities Manager in a timely manner
Ability to learn other maintenance area tasks to provide support as needed
Provides support for shoveling snow/spreading salt
Ability to work overtime as necessary
Maintain a documented preventative maintenance schedule required to keep equipment and buildings running smoothly
Ability to communicate, cooperate and serve people from all cultural identities with respect, professionalism, integrity and fairness in a manner that recognizes the individuality of each person.
Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance program effectiveness.
Regular and consistent attendance
Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisory or management staff
SCHEDULE AND RATE OF PAY:
Monday-Friday 7:30am-noon, 12:30pm-4pm
40 hours per week
Rate of pay is $19.70 per hour
Eligible for time and a half/ overtime
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma
Experience in general building maintenance
Ability to safely operate all types of maintenance equipment
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Ability to understand and comprehend shop service manuals
Effective time management and organization skills
Valid driver's license
