Job Description

Rochester Elementary School is looking for a responsible custodian to maintain its classrooms and building. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on facility upkeep. This is an 8 hour position 5 days a week, which begins at approximately 2 pm and ends at 10 pm. This position begins July 1, 2025.

Responsibilities

Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash & recycling, tidying furniture and disinfecting all desk/table surfaces.

Sweep, mop floors and vacuum carpets

Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and restock disposables.

Clean mirrors and windows.

Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests.

Perform maintenance and minor repairs (ie broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, etc.)

Secure facility after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and shutting off lights.

Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.)

Summer time - deep cleaning included stripping & waxing all floors;

Requirements

Experience as a custodian or janitor in a similar role.

Familiarity of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.

Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.

Familiarity with basic handyman practices and basic landscaping

Attention to detail

Basic computer skills for custodial seminar learning and email

Good physical condition

High school diploma
