PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Environmental Services Attendant performs a wide range of cleaning duties in all areas of the hospital, using specialized housekeeping equipment and chemicals to maintain a clean, safe, and aseptic environment for patients, staff, physicians and public.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  1. Cleans floor and wall surfaces with a Germicidal Disinfectant in designated areas such as patient care units, examination rooms, offices, and immediate grounds by washing, sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping with specified cleaning agents; removes spillages by wet mopping as necessary. Cleans isolation rooms and surgical areas to high standards of cleanliness and sterilization as directed.
  2. Sanitizes rest rooms with a Germicidal Disinfectant using brushes, bowl mop, mops, and other materials as required. Replaces items such as toilet paper, hand towels, hand soap.
  3. Transports from soiled utility rooms and empties trash, soiled linen, red regulated waste, and sharp object receptacles in specified collection areas. Using safety procedures to comply the hazardous waste requirements.
  4. Operates and maintains departmental equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner. Operates cleaning equipment both mechanical and electrical to remove soils, stains, and other debris from assigned areas.
  5. Uses chemicals and supplies according to department standards to ensure safety and efficiency. Hospital uses an approved Germicidal Disinfectant cleaner.
  6. Cleans daily patient rooms to include bedside table, overbed table, patient restroom, spot checking walls emptying and relining trash containers. Dry/Damp mopping/vacuuming. Frequently touched surfaces.
  7. Cleans patient rooms after patient has been discharged, using the department procedure for discharge cleaning, to ensure room is available for immediate use.
  8. Performs cleaning, such as cleaning light fixtures, wall vents and furniture moving. Completes meeting setups, projects as required.
  9. Perform cleaning and maintenance work on hard and soft floors by buffing, stripping, waxing and extraction.
  10. Use and maintain buffers and extractors in a safe manner and ensure that they are properly stored away after use.
  11. Performs other Duties as assigned and Rotating shifts as needed.
  12. Completes department records as required.
  13. Attends In-Services and other meetings as needed.

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma/GED

Experience

  • Preferred:
  • Hospital housekeeping experience
