Purpose of Position

Responsible for maintaining buildings and facilities of the park commission.

The immediate supervisor for this position is the Deputy Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Sweeps floors, vacuums carpets, mops floors, cleans kitchen areas, and sanitizes bathrooms
• Picks up paper and trash of buildings
• Empties garbage cans
• Waxes and polishes floors in the Activity Centers

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

• Operates vacuum cleaner and floor machine
• Assists other employees when equipment is needed for special events of the park commission
• Maintain good public relations with the community and other employees
• Work closely with all city departments on related jobs

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of general maintenance procedures in maintaining buildings and facilities
• Knowledge of cleaning materials, waxes, and all-purpose cleaners and materials
• Skill in operating vacuum cleaner and floor buffer
• Ability to follow instructions
• Work as a team member with other employees
• Handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
• Ability to get along with the public

Special Requirements

Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalency recommended

Good physical condition

A valid driver's license

Floor machine, vacuum cleaner, power tools, etc.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The custodian works regular hours with some overtime work. Weekend work is required. 10% of this job is outdoors, and 90% is indoors and requires work done in all types of weather. The stress level is moderate.
