JOB TITLE: Senior Custodian
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Facilities Manager.
LOCATION: SHS
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Senior Custodian shall assume full responsibility for the general maintenance of the physical school facilities and keep them in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness and safety, so that full educational use of them may be made at all times. The Senior Custodian will have supervisory responsibility-OR-will be the sole custodian within a major facility.*
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans bathrooms, classrooms and other areas.
- Sweeps and washes floors, empties trash and washes windows. Maintains hard floor finish systems.
- Operates powered custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers, floor machines, wet vacuums, floor sweepers, carpet cleaning machines and power washers.
- Outdoor tasks: snow and ice removal, sanding walkways and picking up litter.
- Also performs tasks supportive of school functions such as moving/setting up/breaking down chairs and tables, controlling building access and maintaining security.
- Consistently promotes the safety, health and comfort of the students and employees.
- Maintains and accounts for an inventory and recommend purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment.
- Plans, oversees and executes all maintenance and repair work in a major facility*, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
- Be responsible for the dissemination and collection of keys.
- Be primarily responsible for building checks and emergency calls.
- Be familiar with, be willing to train others, and be primarily responsible for the effective and efficient operation of all building based systems, e.g., technology, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be willing and able to receive and follow directions and to work as a team member
- Must be willing and able to perform strenuous physical labor including sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, lifting heavy objects, painting, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Must be trustworthy, teachable, flexible and demonstrate an attitude of concern for the cleanliness, safety and security of the school.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
QUALIFICATION-PREFERRED:
- Previous custodial experience
- Working knowledge of building operations
- Ability to relate well to the school community and the general public.
Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check.
TERMS: 12 month, AFSCME Custodian Unit, Salary assigned per collective bargaining agreement
