Groundskeeper

The University of Evansville is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Groundskeeper to join our Facilities Management team. This full-time position plays a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our campus grounds, ensuring that walkways, roadways, parking lots, and landscapes remain neat, safe, and welcoming for our campus community and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Seasonal Grounds Care

Mow, edge, aerate, thatch, fertilize, and maintain lawns and planter beds.

Plant, weed, sweep, rake, and remove leaves.

Perform snow and ice removal, de-icing, and salting as needed.

Clean and maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and ornamental beds.

Operate a variety of equipment, including power mowers, blowers, saws, weed eaters, and hedge trimmers.

Trash Clean-Up and General Maintenance

Keep campus grounds free of trash, debris, and litter to present a clean and attractive environment.

Ensure trash containers are regularly emptied and properly positioned.

Daily Operations, Projects, and Events

Assist with campus-wide tasks, such as cleaning debris around fountains.

Set up and clean up for special events like commencement, open houses, and honors convocations.

Support campus operations by moving furniture, lab equipment, and athletic gear.

Aid maintenance trades with general site cleanup.

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance

Drive and operate campus vehicles and equipment.

Perform periodic maintenance and minor repairs on tools, vehicles, and equipment.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; OR 12 months of equivalent education and/or experience.

Skills and Abilities:

Follow oral and written instructions and read schematics.

Operate and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment.

Understand gardening and landscaping methods, tools, and safety practices.

Identify and address common weeds, pests, and plant diseases.

Communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, vendors, and the public.

Other Requirements:

Valid driver's license.

Ability to lift 50-75 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.

Work Environment

Exposure to environmental allergens such as grasses, weeds, and pollens.

Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures.

Tasks may involve hazardous materials such as solvents and asbestos.

Physical Demands

This is a highly physical role that requires standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Tasks include operating hand and power tools and handling materials of varying weights.
