Position Description

The Anoka County Parks mission is to positively impact the quality of life in Anoka County by providing parks, outdoor recreation, and leisure services for the public. Our mission encompasses the protection of the natural environment, improving the health of citizens, and supporting a strong local economy. The department has an immediate opening for a Custodian who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include performing weekly or recurring cleaning and maintenance tasks such as general cleaning, dusting, trash removal, room setups and basic maintenance.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of June 8 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $17.44 to $19.63 per hour. Annual salary calculation pro-rated based on part-time status.

  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 20: $17.44 to $21.82 per hour. Annual salary calculation pro-rated based on part-time status.

Work Location

  • This position will work at Wargo Nature Center, located at 7700 Main Street, Lino Lakes, MN 55038.

  • Expected work hours are 5:00-9:00am or 6:00-10:00pm (depending on need and availability):

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Custodian.

  • Work alone or with a team to perform all custodial duties in any assigned location and maintain a basic daily routine including tasks such as trash pick-up, recycling, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, restroom cleaning, and washing glass entryways and hard surface floors.

  • Perform weekly or recurring cleaning and maintenance tasks such as carpet cleaning, dusting, changing light bulbs and other basic maintenance, using extractors and auto scrubbers for floor care, and cleaning hallways, stairs, and office spaces.

  • Complete extra cleaning duties in all areas as assigned, including providing support cleaning of auxiliary buildings at or near the nature center.

  • Notify supervisor of feedback regarding cleaning/environmental concerns and areas identified for facility improvement, such as the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.

  • Maintain custodial inventory and supplies, including placing orders to replenish stock, and provide feedback on the quality of and need for new supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain and consistently apply knowledge of safety and protocol and attend training on proper utilization and maintenance of equipment, emergency protocol/situational awareness, and severe weather procedures.

  • Assist co-workers, county staff, and the public with any custodial or basic facility maintenance needs.

  • Assist in training team members, and share and develop best practices, methods, job knowledge, and other techniques to complete tasks safely, efficiently, and with excellent results.

  • Attend weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings with supervisor and other facilities staff which may include training, status reviews, and coaching/training.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a high school diploma

  • Successfully pass drivers license background check

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Customer service skills

  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple daily tasks as directed

  • Experience with cleaning tasks, supplies/chemicals, and maintenance equipment

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment, and outdoor work sites in all weather conditions depending on assignment

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness

  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds

  • Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties

  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing

  • Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment

  • Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.

  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to maintenance equipment depending on assignment

  • Maintenance equipment may include but is not limited to ladders, shovels, power saws, drills, routers, grinders, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, sewer augers, pipe threaders, pumps, scaffolding, snow and leaf blowers, hand and riding mowers, string trimmer, hand and power tools, vacuum, brooms, floor buffers and scrubbers and other floor cleaning equipment, pallet jacks, push/pull carts, chemicals, and personal protective equipment

  • Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed

  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties
