Maintenance Worker

Bus Garage / District Wide

Full-time, year round position; includes snow days, scrub weeks, & summer break

Job Goal(s):

Participate in the care and upkeep of all RSU 9 buildings and equipment. To provide a safe and clean learning environment enabling the students to take the fullest advantage of the district's total educational program. To respect the district and its personnel and represent it with the utmost professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information.
  • Ability to work safely with power and hand tools.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees. Be a team player.
  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others.
  • Self directed/motivated.
  • Physical ability required to lift 40 lbs.
  • Proper ladder safety required; ability to climb and stand on ladders
  • Physical ability to pull, push, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the carpentry and plumbing trades.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Willingness to cross train to another position as needed.
  • Hold a valid Maine driver's license.
  • Must have passed a physical exam directed by state requirements and comply with stipulations recommended by the districts examining physician
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.
  • Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
  • Occasional strenuous physical work.
  • Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.

Certifications

  • Hold or eligible to hold a valid Maine DOE Background Check - CHRC
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Must become CPR certified; and maintain certification throughout employment
Performance Responsibilities
  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs as assigned.
  • Completes scheduled tasks in a timely manner.
  • Performs maintenance tasks with minimal supervision
  • Perform emergency repairs during the school day.
  • Maintains tools, parts, and equipment inventory in accordance with district policy
  • Maintain the buildings in a safe, neat, and orderly fashion.
  • Become familiar with all emergency procedures of the buildings including valves, switches, and other building equipment.
  • Offer input to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor with regards to materials, equipment, procedures, and maintenance needs.
  • Keep the maintenance shop and maintenance vehicles in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion.
  • Report any and ALL accidents no matter how small to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor and follow-up the verbal report with a written accident report.
  • Be in uniform dress code all the days required in the Support Staff Contract.
  • Follow all necessary requirements regarding time clock procedures.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Know and understand the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor

Education

  • High school graduate or GED preferred.
  • Participate in Driving Dynamics course as recommended by the state and required by the district.

Experience

  • Experience in building maintenance and repairs.

Working Schedule

  • Maintenance personnel is a 40 hour-per week position, there may be some hours in excess of pre established hours. The position is primarily a day-time position; there may be some required change to shifts based on district needs to cover leave requests and special projects.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel between schools or district buildings is required

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor

Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.

Evaluation: Maintenance Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
