PRT - Building Maintenance Worker II

Performs general building maintenance duties as a part of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. Installs, repairs or replaces fixtures, ballasts, fuses, breakers, and electrical wiring and outlets. Replaces wires and updates light fixtures, plugs, switches, and breakers. Must understand principals of diagnosis and repair of HVAC equipment. Makes repairs or adjustments to plumbing such as unstopping drains and replacing flush valves. Performs rough carpentry to construct wall framing, floor systems, roof decking and systems. Performs building renovations and repairs such as removing or installing flooring and ceiling tiles, removing or installing sheetrock and drywall. Performs building renovations such as painting interior and exterior surfaces. Repairs doors and windows, doorknobs, and locks. Updates computerized asset management system (Cityworks) with information on inspections, service requests and work orders, including work performed, labor, materials and equipment. Performs light welding and other assigned duties. May work 12-hour shifts during snow removal.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; and one to three years of progressively responsible related experience in building maintenance; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires valid driver's license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades. Skilled in a wide range of hand and power tools and equipment; performing skilled trades, such as carpentry or painting; installing or repairing electrical or mechanical parts, components or equipment. Ability to communicate effectively; read and interpret written documents; perform basic mathematical calculations.
Physical Demands: Lift, move or carry up to 40 lbs.; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.; ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. using feet and legs or hands and arms; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on narrow, slippery surfaces; bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs; move about on hands and knees or hands and feet; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high, exposed places, and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.
Hours of work: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Responds to after-hours call-outs as required.
