WPS is a high-achieving west-suburban district of 2,800 students, with one preschool, three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. QUALIFICATIONS
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
Professional Certification:
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprint
Experience:
- Experience in custodial or related work is helpful, but we will train the right candidate
Specialized Skills:
- Bilingual skills, especially Spanish, are highly desirable but not required
- Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness and ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as member of a team
- Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
- Must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production.
Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above
at the discretion of the Superintendent,
if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

Job Goal: The Custodian is a member of the Facilities team who is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and working school building.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a healthy, safe, and secure building
- Keep the building and premises, including sidewalks and driveways, neat and clean at all times
- Keep the grounds and offices free of rubbish
- Sweep/vacuum halls/classrooms/common areas and dust furniture and horizontal surfaces
- Swab, mop, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures, sinks, and drinking fountains daily
- Lift, carry, or move furniture, supplies, or equipment within the building as required
- Shovel, plow, and/or sand snow/ice on walks, driveways, and elsewhere, as directed
- Solve problems and make decisions, maintaining full communication with the Facilities Manager and Head Custodian;
- Is available for building checks and coverage if required;
Any other relative duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids;
- hear voices and machine/building/environmental noises with or without hearing aides;
- communicate and collaborate effectively with others so that information received and given is understood and accurately communicated;
- remain in a stationary position for periods of time;
- position oneself to maintain and access school/classroom/office/custodial materials;
- move through the office, classrooms, school, school grounds;
- operate custodial machinery;
- observe details at close range;
- in the school setting, ensure the safety of students and staff;
- multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;
- shovel, sweep, bend, carry, and perform other physical tasks related to the duties and responsibilities of the custodian’s job;
- lift up to and including 50 lbs.
- the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Custodian does not have supervisory responsibilities.
