Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

Housekeeping is vital in reducing infection by maintaining a clean facility for the hospital, medical office building and Eunice Smith Nursing Home. The housekeeping department is responsible for daily cleaning of all patient care areas and the periodic cleaning of all offices and support space. The skills range from routine cleaning to sterile cleaning processes.

Role Purpose

Responsible for daily housekeeping services as assigned, using procedures as outlined by the hospital or service organization. During the absence of the supervisor, assumes those responsibilities in addition to regular assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Performs discharge cleaning process in inpatient rooms and prepares room for next admission.
  • Performs routine cleaning activities in inpatient, public and common areas using prescribed, established cleaning process.
  • Assumes supervisor responsibilities in the absence of supervisor.
  • Keeps equipment clean and functional according to procedure and reports defects to supervisor.
