Summary Repairs and maintains production machinery, mechanical equipment, plant and grounds as required or in accordance with established preventive maintenance procedures. Develops plans to continuously improve the operation and efficiency of the plant. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Performs a variety of duties involved in the maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment such as replacing motors or brushes, overhauling relays, circuit breakers and electric power tools, greasing and oiling motors, and replacing defective tubes and modules on electronic controls and equipment, lights and fuses. + Bends and installs conduit, pulls and terminates wires, replaces motors and motor starters. + Installs, maintains, repairs or rebuilds a variety of machines. + Follows all departmental procedures to ensure quality requirements are met. + Diagnoses trouble, disassembles, and determines extent of repairs necessary. + Repairs, refits or replaces worn or defective parts. + Must be available for off shift work when emergency repairs or snow removal are necessary. + Makes ordinary replacement parts, selects materials, plans and performs difficult machining operations on replacement parts, skilled fittings of bearings, spindles, etc. + Performs a wide variety of routine to complex plant maintenance operations, including building repairs, electrical work and plumbing. + Monitor building and production equipment, developing, and carrying out preventative maintenance plans as necessary. + Other duties may be assigned. Qualification Requirements Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Basic Machine, Electric and Welding Certificates and 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic. Language Skills Ability to comprehend and comply with written and verbal procedures, instructions and assignments. Ability to deal with situations involving several variables in standard ad manufacturing conditions. Ability to actively participate in-group problem solving activities. Mathematical Skills Ability to correctly perform calculations using basic mathematical skills. Reasoning Ability Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems normally encountered in the manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to vibration and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Employee is required to follow all safety rules and procedures including, but not limited to, using required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). PPE for this position includes safety glasses, hearing protection and hard toed shoes. The following PPE may also be necessary based on the tasks being performed: face shields, gloves (general cloth, nitrile chemical resistant, heat resistant and/or electrical insulating gloves), acid suits, safety harness and/or lanyards.
