Title of Position: Maintenance Mechanic / Loader Operator

Location: Linden, N.J.

Generally, the Maintenance Mechanic/Loader Operator will have at least 3 years of experience as a heavy industrial mechanic with a good working knowledge of tools and equipment related to the job. The successful candidate must demonstrate initiative, responsibility, have good interpersonal skills and be flexible/adaptive to a fast-paced and fluid business environment. Additionally, we encourage mechanics/operators to participate in continuing education to stay abreast of both the technical knowledge related to their profession and to the changes related to safety compliance. Through a combination of growth and acquisitions, Silvi Concrete has become one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of concrete products in the Northeast, US. Today, the company manufactures concrete at multiple locations and supplies those plants with materials from its own mining operations and deep-water port facility.

Position Essential Functions Responsibilities

(As a Maintenance Mechanic)

  • Inspect and determine the nature of difficulties and malfunctioning and takes necessary action to restore equipment to good operating order.
  • Evaluate equipment failures for root cause, communicate findings, make suggestions for equipment improvements, and be able to install modifications as directed.
  • Performs daily rounds checklist on operating equipment observing machine in operation and listening to sounds to detect unusual operation.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and procedures, recording all pertinent information such as work performed, parts used, measurements taken, recommendations, etc.
  • In the shop and in the field performs maintenance and repairs on compressors, generators, fans and motors, pumps, gearboxes mixers, blowers, conveyors, conveyor belts, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and maintenance equipment.
  • Properly balances systems and rigs for dismantling of mechanical equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove/install components using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools
  • Welds metal parts together or repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, as specified by layout, diagram work order or oral instructions
  • Overhauls equipment and installs new bearings, gears, valves, seals, linkages and other parts as may be required.
  • Orders or requisitions all parts and materials for repairs or replacement.
  • Keeps work area clean and in a safe condition.
  • Complete work assignments in the allotted time frame.

(As a Loader Operator)

  • Ability to operate large front end loaders and other mechanized construction equipment safely and adeptly.
  • Load material from a stockpile.
  • Must be able to estimate load size for a vehicle and not over or under load a truck.
  • Must do general cleanup around all areas.
  • Ability to build up and maintain a stockpile of material.
  • Check, service and assist in making minor and emergency adjustments and repairs in the field and in the repair shop.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic at a similar position or a position with transferable skills to plant equipment / loading and operating.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of varied types of motors and their operation.
  • Knowledge of the common reasons for mechanical failure and the steps necessary to correct malfunctioning.
  • Knowledge of the diagnostic and repair tools and equipment used in dissembling mechanical equipment, repairing and adjusting motors and mechanical equipment and installing new parts and their proper use and care.
  • Ability to rebuild and install new and/or rebuilt assemblies in equipment.
  • Ability to prepare reports of time spent, cost, materials used, and work completed.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, using diagram schematics and parts manual.
  • Must have good eyesight, manual and finger dexterity, mechanical aptitude, and willingness to put in long hours of work when necessary
  • Knowledge and experience with safety regulations, i.e. OSHA, as they apply to the operation
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Possesses a sense of urgency and ownership
  • Must possess an even temperament to work under pressure to prevent costly delays in production that can result from machinery breakdown
  • Possesses analytical, problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to respond with flexibility and efficiency to frequent changes in task focus, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines.
  • Trades-level skills in one or more of the following: carpentry, electrical, plumbing to support staff training, troubleshooting, inspections, specification development, building construction etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds on a regular basis, throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb on traditional and truck ladders.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand/sit for long periods of time.
  • Kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
  • Make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists while driving.
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Use muscles to jump, sprint, or throw objects.
  • Use muscles for extended periods of time.
  • Be physically active for long periods of time.
  • Determine from which direction a sound came.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Must be able to work outdoors, in all weather conditions.
