The Banquet Captain supervises staff, operations, and guests of private events. This role is responsible for assisting in planning events, managing the food and beverage service, and tending to guests requests and complaints. The Banquet Captain will also assist with the training of all frontline event team members.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Provide staff with standardized training, including customer service and serving etiquette.
  • Develop par levels and monitor the inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture, providing orders for additional inventory to the GM well in advance for approval.
  • Assist with departmental operations across Journeyman properties as required.
  • Reports beverage costs and labor costs to GM weekly.
  • Participates in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for events.
  • Participates in all restaurant and hospitality meetings.
  • Assist managers and organizers with planning the layout and logistics of events.
  • Work with the GM and Events Sales Managers to create and manage staff shifts and timetables.
  • Review Event Sheets and floorplan at the beginning of each shift, guiding personnel to ensure the room is set as contracted.
  • Welcome guests upon their arrival and assist them with their seating arrangements.
  • Run the floor and coordinate the food and drink service by liaising with the kitchen and service staff.
  • Courteously and professionally tend to guests' requests, questions, and complaints.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas of the venue.
  • Ensure that all applicable safety regulations are communicated and adhered to.
  • Enforce compliance with all food and beverage regulations, including legal service of alcohol to guests.
  • Remain in communication with the GM and Lead Servers regarding any special needs.
  • Ensure that the events are on time, adjusting as needed and relay that information to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure all work areas are fully stocked with supplies and that workstations are properly refilled at the end of every shift.
  • Ensure all team members adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Understand and communicate products and services available at the distillery.
  • Provide post-event communication to guests and collect guest satisfaction metrics.
  • Consistently provide end-of-day reports to capture event service issues.
  • Supports restaurant hospitality team as needed.
Requirements

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL SKILLS:

  • Must speak English fluently and be able to write in basic English.
  • Excellent leadership abilities and the ability to manage many staff members.
  • Great organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • The ability to provide an excellent level of customer service, even in stressful situations.
  • Ability to use logical or rational thinking to solve problems.
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
  • Ability to visually inspect food and beverage orders, read order forms, and ensure that orders comply with the customers request.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds of food trays carrying over their head constantly and performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping for up to five hours without sitting.

EDUCATIONAL, DEVELOPMENT AND WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Thorough knowledge of food and beverage service preparation and operational procedures as would normally be acquired through a high school education and at least two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of state liquor laws as applied to food and beverage service operational practices and procedures as would be acquired through and at least two years of relevant experience preferred in progressive roles.
  • Current manager and alcohol ServSafe certifications.
  • Understanding of basic point-of-sale (POS) functionality and setup.

REQUIRED WORK HABITS:

  • Work habits include regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, positive attitude, and promptness.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works primarily indoors in a bar and restaurant environment.
  • Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement hazards, sharp utensils, extremely hot stoves, grills and food and dangerous chemicals/solvents if proper safety procedures are not followed.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must have reliable transportation
