Overview

Performs horticultural and landscaping activities affecting the casino and hotel grounds, off-site properties, and/or any other assigned areas.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains native and adaptive landscapes by pruning and trimming flowers, shrubs, and trees within the guidelines required be each variety.
  • Controls weeds of landscaped areas, fertilizes as needed, and may edge or mow.
  • Identifies, prevents, controls, and treats plant diseases, as directed.
  • Identifies and controls problems with pests, such as gophers, snails, aphids, etc.
  • May assist in irrigation activities as needed.
  • Reports to the Lead Landscape Gardener situations that require attention or are potential problem areas beyond day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Upholds a work environment that promotes teamwork, partnership, recognition, mutual respect, and collaboration, while role modeling the company values, behaviors, and culture of One.Team.Chumash.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Two years of prior experience in commercial horticulture/landscape experience.
  • Basic knowledge and maintenance of native, adaptive, and water-conscious landscapes.
  • Basic knowledge of plant types, trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and weed species.
  • Basic knowledge of pruning, planting, staking, and deadheading.
  • Forklift Scissor and Boom Operator Certification within the first year.
  • Must participate and complete required ongoing departmental training.
  • Must hold a valid California driver's license and meet the insurance requirements of Chumash Enterprises.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems.
  • Basic computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail, and internet.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules in a 24/7 work environment, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Must apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.
