ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Galt is currently accepting applications to fill the position of a part-time CUSTODIAN I/II.
The Public Works Department is looking for a dependable and trustworthy individual who can work independently and efficiently complete assigned tasks. The ideal candidate will have experience in maintenance, repair, and installation. Because the role involves access to secured facilities, candidates must successfully pass a federal security background check.
Under direct supervision, employees in this at-will classification perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the area of custodial/janitorial services.

Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives general supervision from Facilities Supervisor or Public Works Maintenance Manager. Ability to work independently as some of the work schedules are shift work and performing duties during closed City business operations hours. The level II of this classification may exercise general supervision of lower level staff and/or volunteers.
- Performs variety of janitorial/custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe buildings, and grounds.
- Vacuums rugs, sweeps, mops floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment.
- Clean and sanitize office furniture, dusts ledges and countertops; empties waste baskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately.
- Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures.
- May be required to move and set up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events.
- Maintains restrooms in clean and sanitary condition including disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue and soap.
- Cleans mirrors and water fountains.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education and Experience :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Some experience in maintenance, repair, and installation work is highly desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Must pass federal security background check, for secured building access areas.
Working Conditions :
Must be willing to work in varying weather conditions, although predominantly the work is indoors; must be available for evening, weekend or other shift work.
Physical Demands:
Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform physical work including: frequent standing for long periods of time; frequent walking, bending and squatting; frequent lifting or moving of objects from 30 to 50 pounds; constant use of overall vision; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Must be willing to work in varying weather conditions with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to chemicals, fumes and other environmental substances.
