Opportunity:

The General Maintenance Laborer is responsible to the Supervisor of Maintenance & Operations for assisting all trades in preventative maintenance and repairs on campus. While this posting would ideally seek to attract a construction trades "generalist," the specific focus of duties for this position may shift slightly to a specific trade specialty depending on the qualifications, experience and interests of the applicant and the most urgent need of the college. Presently, preference will be afforded to candidates with some experience, training and/or demonstrated skills in the plumbing and HVAC trades. However, those with interests as a trades generalist or who have skills and experience in any of the specific construction trades are welcome to apply.

Essential Functions:

Perform routine maintenance tasks on buildings and equipment.

Assist with maintenance and repairs utilizing carpentry, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, painting and plumbing.

Complete maintenance work requests across multiple trades to achieve rapid resolution to campus needs.

general maintenance tasks such as hanging pictures, signs, whiteboards, minor furniture repairs, etc.

Chemical handling, properly using personal protective equipment and procedures.

Fulfill other such duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance &Operations.

Respond to after-hours call-ins for campus emergencies, or assist Maintenance & Operations shops as directed by the Supervisor of Maintenance & Operations.

Ability to relate to others in a cooperative and mature Christian manner with good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to drive college vehicles for errands, special events, and shuttle service

Required Education/Experience:

High school diploma.

Preferred Education/Experience:

Working knowledge of Google applications.

Focused interest, training, skill and/or experience in the plumbing or HVAC trades.

Applicable trade certification(s) or apprenticeship training.

Physical Work Environment:

This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily around the campus grounds, in campus facilities and workshops as well as occasionally in a professional office environment, using standard office and shop equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other job-related tools and technology.

Primarily, the role requires substantial periods of time standing and/or walking as well as occasionally working in potentially hazardous situations/environments involving chemicals, solvents, vapors, heights, ladders, platforms, confined crawl spaces. May involve sitting, but normally less than 10% of the day.

Classified as medium, frequent lifting, moving or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 30 lbs.

Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken or written word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.

Generally, full-time hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend and emergency call-in work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel is not required for this position.
