This Food Service Assistant Lead, Patient will be responsible to:
  • Take the lead role in hospital patient room service activities. Prepare hot and cold food items for patient room service, cafe/diner and catering. Assist in the preparation of pre portioned, make ahead bulk items for patient room service menu
  • Deliver all food items prepared to designated serving area in an established timeframe and at the required temperature. Complete next day's preparation assignments. Routinely test food for quality, appearance, flavor, temperature, texture, color and doneness
  • Follow established guidelines, recipes and procedures for age specific feeding and specialized diets. Assist in the preparation and execution of patient related food service such as Bader 5 meals and Child Life Functions
  • Daily responsibilities include the assembly, checking, and/or delivery and retrieval of specialty patient trays (including for patients with known allergies) in a highly efficient and safe manner
  • Participate in customer service activities including but not limited to order taking, face- to- face patient interaction, and utilization of technology for patient services activities such as tug robots, tablets and patient menu ordering software. Maintain a high level of professionalism and courtesy within these patient facing interactions
  • Follow and monitor H.A.C.C.P. food preparation and storage procedures. Follow dept policies and procedures for hand washing, hair restraints, cooling/reheating foods and taste testing
  • Store, hold and transport cold food items at 40F or below and hot food items at 140F or above. Test food temperatures with approved food thermometer and records in log
  • Wrap, label and date all food items and stores in designated area in an organized manner. Follow F.I.F.O. principle of food rotation
  • Clean and sanitize all food contact surfaces and equipment after every use to avoid contamination. Record ppm of sanitizer solution in designated log. Avoid cross contamination from raw to cooked and ready to eat foods via hands, equipment, utensils and cutting boards
To qualify you must have:
  • A High School Diploma / GED is preferred and 3 years of similar work experience is required
  • Ability to read and understand instruction and use math in food preparation and other duties
  • Skills to add, subtract and understand numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters
  • Comprehension of weight measures, recipe conversion, and portion control to minimize waste
  • Customer service skills and courtesy with ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appts, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel
