Tremont Food Service Goal: Tremont’s dining hall and kitchen is where our participants and educators gather for nourishment and community. Tremont’s kitchen staff directly supports our mission by providing those in residence with quality meals and foods that are nutritious and ready our learners for outdoor experiences. The mealtime experience at Tremont cultivates an attitude of sensitivity toward and connection to the natural world. Our kitchen team serves groups, both children and adults, who live with us at Tremont for three to ten days inside our home in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This position assists in meal preparation, set up, and clean up, creating a cohesive program experience for each participant at Tremont.

Position Responsibilities and Requirements:

• Represents the organization to participants with a smiling, welcoming demeanor and attitude. Communicates with team members effectively and cooperatively.

• Requires ability to abide by sanitation and food safety rules during preparation, delivery, cleaning of kitchen during and after shift, as well as the ability to monitor and model safe work habits.

• Performs meal preparation duties including, but not limited to: cleaning, peeling, chopping, and/or slicing produce and food items

• Prepares vegetables, breads, salads and desserts [according only to approved recipes]; prepares beverage and coffee service for each meal

• Operates various food preparation tools safely in preparing foods

• Sets up and serves food; sets up trays for service

• Completes and updates food service records

• Performs kitchen cleaning and custodial duties including but not limited to washing dishes by hand, loading and operating the dishwasher, cleaning kitchen counters and appliances, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying and carrying out trash

• Assists in performing physical inventory of kitchen pantry

• Other duties may be required and assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience and Education: High school diploma or GED preferred but not required; previous experience and/or training that includes work in the food service industry is a plus.

Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings and weekends.

Requires possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-50 pounds).
