ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides next-level guest service to internal and external guests. Demonstrates #AddLife culture in all interactions with guests and co-workers.
2. Responsible for fostering an environment of support and motivation for Team Members.
3. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information in accordance with established procedures with company policy and state regulations.
4. Assists trainers with the saddling of horses, including adjusting saddle weights.
5. Prepares equipment for the jockey weigh out process.
6. Places number on saddle to correspond with horse’s entry number in race.
7. Reads color assignment chart and obtains specific colors of silks from color room corresponding to stable colors.
8. Checks that rider is wearing the proper silks, helmet cover, and arm number.
9. Assists Trainers with equipment adjustments in the Paddock.
10. Provides riding crop to Jockey that they are saddling.
11. Makes Jockey and Clerk of Scales aware of any safety equipment that needs to be repaired/replaced.
12. Unsaddles horse after each race and carries equipment back to the Jockey’s room after each race and after the weigh in process is completed.
13. Cleans jockey equipment between each race (saddles, girth straps, etc.).
14. Places used saddle towels in laundry container.
15. Abides by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions.
16. Resolves problems that are within the position's scope of authority and recommends courses of action to resolve problems that are beyond the scope of authority to the position’s supervisor.
17. Keeps position supervisor informed of relevant activities.
18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Clerk of Scales such as attaching test barn and/or claimed horse bit tags after the running of each race.

REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend required training sessions offered by the Company.
• Obtain and maintain required license(s), including a Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) license.
• Perform the duties described in compliance with local laws and regulations.
• Take the necessary steps to ensure minors are not allowed to gamble or loiter in gambling areas, drink alcoholic beverages, or purchase tobacco.
• Have knowledge of the ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relating to the Team Member’s department.
• Have knowledge of the Property’s programs to address problem gaming.
• Report any acts of wrongdoing of which the Team Member may have knowledge.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have experience working closely around racehorses.
• Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Must have strong organizational skills.
• Must be team-oriented.
• Must be able to work successfully with a variety of personality styles.
• Must be able to perform various functions essential to racing operations.
• Must be available to work during the entire race meet at Colonial Downs.
