JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: SWITCHBOARD/BUILDING RECEPTIONIST (MIDDLE SCHOOL)
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of principles and practices of office management, office equipment and office procedures 3. 3. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the English language in written and oral forms.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with both the public and staff.
Demonstrate a positive and friendly attitude that projects a positive image of the district, staff and students.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, and communicates clearly and distinctly in person and on the phone.
Willing to learn new duties and technology skills as required.
Self-directed and self-motivated in job related tasks.
Understands and addresses safety and security concerns related to the school environment.

SUPERVISES: N/A
PURPOSE OF JOB: This position welcomes, screens and directs all visitors to the proper areas in order to provide optimum learning experiences and a safe environment for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates and maintains the building telephone console, including updating console extension information; relays incoming, outgoing and intra-system calls and takes messages as appropriate.
Greets visitors, determines the nature of visitors' business, and contacts that person by telephone.
Provides surveillance and entry into the building per television monitors and electronic door mechanisms.
Keeps a log and oversees the screening software system for the visitors and staff for entry and exit and /or issues
passes or badges as appropriate.
Monitor and maintains the day-to-day student attendance procedures.
Update and maintain the daily attendance exceptions.
Monitor in-house attendance and schedule software for C.O.L.T Time.
Initiate attendance letters to inform parents when students are absent. Knowledge of crisis/emergency and safety procedures and drills.
Performs clerical work that includes use of a computer, data entry, distributing the mail, sorting /collating other documents.
Takes the initiative to provide prompt, courteous service when information or assistance is requested. 11. Knowledge of appropriate district/ building regulations, procedures and services
Assist in making arrangements for bus service for the school as requested.
Assist in updating and maintaining student records and files.
Performs other tasks and responsibilities assigned.
PHYSICAL CONTEXT OF THE JOB: The position requires the operation of a telephone console. Use of photocopier, computer, and the FAX machine may also be required. This position may require long periods of sitting.
GENERAL COMMENTS: The nature of this position requires the ability to maintain confidential information and the demonstration of ethical, professional conduct at all times. A working knowledge of community (people and resources) is desirable.
