Birley Bakery is the newest opening by the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private members clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswalds in London.
Opening summer 2025, Birley Bakery will be located on the Upper East Sides Madison Avenue, and aims to create a warm and welcoming environment, inspired by the classic concept of Boulangerie-Patisserie. We will fulfil the need of every household craving exceptional quality, by delivering simple yet elegantly crafted bread, pastries and desserts.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Server on the second floor of Birley Bakery NYC, you will deliver warm, attentive, and polished service to our seated guests. This floor will offer a curated selection of breakfast items, pastries, and espresso-based drinks prepared in-house. In this hybrid role, youll not only provide exceptional table service but also prepare espresso drinks to order, requiring some barista experience. Youll work closely with both the kitchen and barista teams downstairs to ensure timely, accurate, and beautifully presented service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Guest Experience & Service:
- Greet, seat, and serve guests with warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Present and explain menu offerings including breakfast items, pastries, and specialty drinks.
- Manage walk-ins and possible reservations from Maximes Private Members Club.
- Take accurate orders, prepare espresso-based beverages, and deliver items promptly.
- Offer recommendations based on guest preferences or dietary needs.
Barista Duties:
- Prepare espresso-based drinks and teas using in-house equipment on the second floor.
- Maintain proper technique and consistency with all drinks in accordance with Birley standards.
- Ensure the bar area is clean, organized, and stocked with coffee beans, milk alternatives, and other bar supplies.
- Communicate with the barista team downstairs to retrieve any beverages or ingredients that are not stocked upstairs.
Coordination with Kitchen & Pastry Teams:
- Work closely with the kitchen downstairs and pastry teams to retrieve plated breakfast dishes and pastries.
- Confirm accuracy of orders and handle all items with care to maintain presentation quality.
- Maintain clear communication around timing, special requests, or inventory updates.
Cleanliness & Organization:
- Keep the second-floor dining area and service station clean, organized, and stocked.
- Reset tables efficiently and always maintain a polished guest environment.
- Stock silverware, trays, napkins, and bar supplies as needed.
Opening & Closing Duties:
- Assist with setting up and breaking down the second-floor service area each day.
- Complete side work such as cleaning espresso equipment, sanitizing surfaces, and restocking for the next shift.
- Communicate shift notes and any guest feedback to management.
- **POS & Payment Handling
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)
- 1+ year barista and server experience preferred, specialty coffee or high-volume cafe experience a plus.
- Knowledge of espresso equipment and dialing in.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Friendly, guest-focused, and team-oriented.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks.
- Ability to operate and use all the equipment necessary to run the bakery.
- Ability to operate with grace under pressure.
- Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work varied hours/days (early mornings, weekends, holidays) as business dictates.
- Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.

Compensation DetailsCompensation: Hourly ($20.00 - $22.00) plus tips
