Job Description:
The custodian is in charge of cleaning the parish facilities on a regular basis and keeping track of and restocking the cleaning supplies. The areas that the custodian would be cleaning are: parish office, rectory, church, and religious education building. These areas are vital to our operations as a parish and thus need the care and attention that a custodian would perform. The custodian may also be asked to clean the church before a: wedding, funeral, or other special church event, including, but not limited to: Christmas, Easter, First Communion, Confirmation, or other special celebration. The custodian would be asked to have a flexible schedule as there may be days and times in which they are not able to access an area for cleaning because of an event or activity taking place. Therefore, the custodian may have to shift the day or time to adjust for cleaning the area (for example, if there is a funeral in church when the custodian would normally come to clean the church facilities). However, the days and times that the custodian will work can be flexible to meet their needs and the needs of the parish. These times can be negotiated during the interview process to give the parish a better understanding of when the candidate is available and when the parish would need the areas to be cleaned. The custodian will have their weekly hours divided up between the areas that need attention and the hours are adjusted during the year based on need (for example, the religious education building is only used September through April, thus it would not need to be cleaned, on a regular basis, between May to August, but should be looked into a few times during this duration to check and see that everything is okay. It will need a thorough cleaning at the end of the religious education year, and another cleaning to prepare for the start of the next year). Below is a breakdown of the areas of the parish and the expected duties of the custodian. These areas need to be taken care of weekly, unless otherwise stated. The custodian is also asked to water the plants inside of the buildings of the areas they will be cleaning.
