Sweet Basil Inc. is the owner and operator of both Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard Restaurants. The two restaurants are located in the heart of Vail Village, Colorado. Sweet Basil has a storied history and has been counted among Colorados best since 1977, including inclusion in the Colorado Michelin Guide since its inception. This landmark restaurant is driven to provide a world class dining experience rooted in exceptional hospitality. Sweet Basils cuisine is progressive, globally influenced, ingredient driven, refined yet playful. This is all presented in a welcoming mountain contemporary environment.

We are currently looking for a Sous Chef to help lead our team at the iconic Vail restaurant Sweet Basil. This is an amazing opportunity to join one of the most respected restaurants in Colorado. You will have lots of creative freedom, leadership opportunities, and the ability to run your own show. This is not an entry level position and requires a passionate and dedicated candidate that is willing strive for excellence at all times. We continually want to take our restaurant to the next level and believe we are on the cusp of something special.

The duties of a Sous Chef in our operations are varied and encompass complete kitchen management. The Sous chef will be expected to perform the following essential duties:

-Lead a team of passionate cooks, inspiring them to reach their maximum potential

-Conduct daily staff line-ups and relay pertinent information in a clear and effective manner

-Create specials and contribute regularly towards menu development.

-Ensure the quality of our food through routine line checks, tastings, corrections and adjustments.

-Educate and train our staff, both FOH and BOH on a regular basis

-Execute daily services, ensuring all menu items are executed in an established timely manner and as the item was designed.

-Assist with necessary paperwork, including menu/special costings, mise en place lists, manager log reports, scheduling, and general management team communications.

-Communicate effectively with members of their team, FOH staff and management, fellow chefs and ownership.

These duties are some examples of the scope of the sous chef position. The ideal candidate will be extremely passionate about food, modern cuisine, ingredients, and hospitality. We want a leader that can inspire others through his or her passion. This person should also have a strong desire to improve their own management skills and abilities, ideally helping the restaurant get better in those same areas. Dynamic is a word that comes to mind when describing the perfect sous chef.

We offer an outstanding salary with plenty of opportunity to grow. As an example, our current Chef de Cuisines both were promoted internally from the Sous Chef level. We also offer a comprehensive benefit package, including a quarterly bonus plan, 4 weeks paid vacation, Manager comp account, R&D account, Free ski pass, and health insurance contribution. Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($80,000.00 - $85,000.00)
