Aquatics Technician / Maintenance Worker

Primary Purpose

Responsible for city pool water quality and maintenance of the Republic Aquatic Center equipment and facilities during the pool season. Assists the Facility Maintenance Division during the off season with the general upkeep, proper operation, and maintenance of various recreational and municipal facilities creating an optimal building environment for citizens and employees.

Supervision

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendents or as assigned.

Schedule The candidate selected for this opportunity can expect their work schedule to be Tuesday - Saturday, Noon - 9:00 PM.

DURING POOL SEASON

  1. Performs daily water testing, responsibly applying pool chemicals as needed, and responsible for the operation and maintenance of the aquatic center filter systems.
  2. Maintains accurate logbook of aquatic facility water testing and treatment.
  3. Assists with the cleaning and maintenance of the aquatic center equipment, features and facilities.
  4. Orders pool chemicals and testing supplies as needed and receives pool chemical deliveries.
  5. Performs aquatic facility winterization, de-winterization, and off-season repairs.
  6. Assists outside contractors as needed.
  7. Assists with the maintenance and monitoring of all HVAC, water, electric and other building support systems to ensure efficient operation.
  8. Assists with repair work, renovation/remodel projects and new construction projects involving painting, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, electrical components, HVAC etc.

OUTSIDE OF POOL SEASON/GENERAL

  1. Assists in the general upkeep, proper operation, and maintenance of various recreational and municipal facilities.
  2. Assists with the maintenance and monitoring of all HVAC, water, electric and other building support systems to ensure efficient operation.
  3. Assists with repair work, renovation/remodel projects and new construction projects involving painting, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, electrical components, HVAC etc.
  4. Assists in floor care of city facilities inclusive of sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and waxing and buffing floors.
  5. Performs regular facility inspections and generates facility inspection reports.
  6. Monitors the status of projects and pending problems, exercises good judgment and problem resolution.
  7. Reduces demand for energy for economic reasons by analyzing systems and implementing improvements and replacement if necessary.
  8. Research and implementation of products, processes, and services for continuous improvements in facility care and maintenance.

AT ALL TIMES

  1. Assists the Parks and Recreation Department during times of special events.
  2. Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Important Duties

  1. Attends staff meetings, in-service training sessions, other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
  2. Maintains appropriate supplies for the assigned area.
  3. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.

Education & Experience

Must have at least two (2) years of previous professional experience in maintenance or related duties. Municipal government and/or Parks & Recreation Department experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must have a working knowledge of commercial pool water chemistry, testing and operation. Ability to read and interpret manuals and safety rules; Demonstrate a general knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC installations and maintenance, carpentry, drywall, and painting; General knowledge of National Electric Codes; Ability to read building plans and wiring diagrams. Must be able to mentally analyze a situation. Must be able to memorize and retain information. Must have cognitive and analytical skills. Must be able to communicate effectively both through verbal and written skills. Must be able to solve problems and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility. Must have good organizational and planning skills. Must be able to give oversight to a small team as assigned.

Special Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Missouri State Driver's License.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain an AFO Certification within one (1) year of employment.

Miscellaneous Requirements

  • May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Subject to emergency call-in.
  • Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
  • Must be willing to work during periods of inclement weather.
  • May be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands

Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift 60 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 100 pounds; Must have the ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.

Work Environment

Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions.
