Performs skilled work in the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, and sidewalks. Assigned to Street Operations within Public Works.
Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidates experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $33.22 per hour.
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
- Five years of road construction or maintenance or related heavy equipment experience.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
- Must possess and maintain, throughout tenure, a valid, unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction at time of hire and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
- Performs skilled maintenance, construction and repair work of City owned sidewalks, alleyways, roads and shoulders as directed.
- Constructs and sets concrete forms, performs other concrete work consisting of excavation, grading, forming, placing, finishing cement sidewalks, driveways, curb & gutters, steps, floors and foundations.
- Operates a variety of City vehicles in order to complete assignments in the field.
- Operates a variety of medium to heavy duty equipment, including concrete mixer, concrete saw, concrete grinder, chop saws, skip loaders and other types of concrete finish tools.
- Prepares reports outlining work performed, materials used and project costs.
- Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.
- Responds to and resolves service requests, inquiries, complaints, and citizen concerns.

- Work performed in various maintenance settings and field situations.
- Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves climbing ladders and working at heights greater than 10 feet, bending and stooping repeatedly, lifting arms above head, and moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
- Make precise measurements and estimates.
- Regular exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors.
- Visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment, hand tools, computer, telephone and two-way radio.
- Skillfully maneuver small objects.
- Operate and use carpentry, masonry, construction, maintenance tools, a variety of medium to heavy equipment, including concrete mixer, concrete saw, concrete grinder, chop saws, skip loaders, and other types of concrete finishing tools.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Sit for extended periods of time while driving a City vehicle or equipment maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area.
- Work alternate schedule that will include holidays, weekends and evenings on regular scheduled assigned times throughout the year.
- Operate a motor vehicle and travel to/from various locations.
