Job Goal:To assist in the preparation of food, serving, and cleanup of the kitchen/ cafeteria area. Primarily, the dishwasher is operated effectively and safely.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Positions assigned to the Food Service Assistant I classification are distinguished by the responsibility to assist the manager with basic food preparation and a primary function as a dishwasher.

RESPONSIBILITIESHelp prepare food items, including sandwiches and salad bar componentsAssist in routine kitchen dutiesAssist in the serving of food to students and staff, ensuring supplies of food and beverages are maintained and spills cleaned up, and/or delivery of food service products to other buildingsAssist in cleaning up, putting food away, storing equipment, washing dishes, scrubbing pots and pans, cleaning food serving areas, sinks, tables, etc.Following standards of efficiency and sanitation set by the Health Department and Food Service Manager II/ Food Service DirectorMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staffParticipate in in-service training as assignedStep in for Food Service Assistant II when neededPerform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem appropriate to the Board or Administration
