Custodian - Evening ShiftSupervisor: Lead Custodian / Facilities SupervisorJob Summary: The candidate for this position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety in the facility during evening hours. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, ensuring proper sanitation, securing the building, and assisting with minor maintenance duties. The Evening Custodian plays a vital role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for staff and visitors.Qualifications:Education and Experience:Meet requirements of Head Start Program Performance Standards and/or Kentucky Division of Regulated Childcare. oHigh school Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)oComplete Inmate Work Program Training AnnuallyKnowledge and Skills:Communicate orally and in writing effectively with diverse groups and demonstrate effective listening skills, respect, be concise and clear, and provide positive body language and empathy with valid feedback.Have strong communication skills.Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office and other software programs for documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, and reporting. Bilingual/bicultural English/Spanish is desirable.Maintain strong organizational skills (organizational skills listed below are not all inclusive).oAbility to create structure and order to boost productivity. oAbility to prioritize tasks that must be completed immediately, versus those that can be postponed. oThe ability to develop work habits that prevent procrastination, clutter, miscommunication, and inefficiency.oAbility to keep work and work area neat and organized. Physical Requirements:Standing and walking for most of the shiftBending, climbing, and liftingMust be able to lift heavy objects.Good physical staminaPhysical strengthBending, reaching, stooping, standing and/or walking for extended periods.Duties and Responsibilities:Responsible for assisting the Agency to comply with Head Start Performance Standards, Kentucky Childcare Regulations, Health, Fire, Safety, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations regarding facilities and environments, equipment operations, and materials handling and usage.Use of Equipment, Chemicals and Hazardous MaterialsResponsible to make sure cleaning carts, equipment, and supplies are not accessible to children during/after use.Must have the ability to read, understand, and apply appropriate handling, use, storage, and disposal of chemicals and products used in cleaning and other custodial duties.Must be knowledgeable and have the skills to apply safety standards to the use of chemicals, hazardous materials, and products.Must be able to appropriately use both commercial and non-commercial cleaning agents as applicable to maintain the buildings and grounds.Must be able to appropriately use equipment for the purpose of cleaning and maintaining the buildings and grounds. Responsible for ensuring all cleaning products and equipment are properly stored at the close of the shift and there is none left for children to access.Monitoring Judicial VolunteersResponsible for assisting the Agency in effectively using volunteers to support the day-to-day operations. Responsible for transporting judicial volunteers safely and securely to and from the local detention facility, in an agency vehicle.Responsible for monitoring and working alongside the judicial volunteers in accordance with the expectations of the Department of Corrections outlined in training provided by the local detention center.Responsible for maintaining compliance of judicial volunteers in the applicable defined policies and procedures of the Agency including but not limited to Standards of Conduct and the Drug, Alcohol and Smoke Free Workplace policies.Responsible for assisting the Lead Custodian in training judicial volunteers to assist in the daily cleaning of the facility and grounds.Cleaning/Other DutiesResponsible for communicating with the Lead Custodian daily to coordinate work assignments to ensure daily cleaning is complete and with the Facility Supervisor in the absence of the Lead Custodian.Responsible for assisting in maintaining an organized supply / equipment area.Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the mop storage room, mop buckets, mops, brooms, and other supplies.Responsible for ensuring windows are closed and locked, lights are turned off, thermostat settings are appropriate for the season, all water is turned off and commodes are not running, the security alarms are set, and doors locked before leaving the facility.Responsible for ensuring all plug-ins are covered in Chef's Cafe with child-safety plugs at the close of the shift and not left for children to access.Responsible for checking all ceiling tiles and outlets. Responsible for assuring all garbage has been taken out to the dumpster daily. Check assigned areas for trip hazards.Responsible for locking the facility after all staff have left for the day, in the absence of the Lead Custodian or as assigned.Responsible for completing daily duties as well as weekly, monthly, and quarterly task assignments, see attached duties list.ClassroomsResponsible for cleaning and disinfecting all EHS and HS classrooms and bathrooms, per duties list.Responsible for collecting all trash from ground and second floor classrooms, daily.Gym/Stairwells/HallwaysResponsible for cleaning the gym, stairwells, and hallways, per duties list.Second Floor LobbyResponsible for cleaning the second-floor lobby, per duties list.Third FloorResponsible for mopping floors on the third floor, per duties list.The duties list is attached as part of this job description.
