To maintain the Countys public buildings and facilities in a clean and orderly condition by performing a full range of janitorial/custodial duties, including but not limited to sweeping, stripping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, and washing of floors, operating janitorial equipment. This work consists of routine manual labor at an entry-level classification. Employees in this classification receive direct supervision within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures.Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. - Maintains the Countys public buildings and facilities in a clean and orderly condition.
- Cleans and disinfects offices and public meeting rooms.
- Scours disinfects all surfaces and restocks restroom materials.
- Dusts and waxes fixtures and furniture.
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and/or buffs floors.
- Washes walls and windows as needed.
- Disposes of waste and soiled articles.
- Replenishes work materials and supplies as needed.
- Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
- Maintains and stores tools and equipment used in daily operation in an orderly manner.
- Prepares rooms for public meetings, unlocks doors, sets up chairs and public address system.
- Cleans up after public meetings and secures building.
- Monitors in a watch person capacity the activities in public buildings while working.
- Changes light bulbs, temporarily repairs restroom facilities such as toilets, faucets, etc. on an as needed basis.
- Secures doors, windows and grounds.
- Monitors building for damage, wear and tear, and/or vandalism, and reports to building maintenance.
- Collect and remove trash, leaves and other debris in and around entries and surrounding grounds.
- Performs related duties as required.
Sufficient formal and/or informal education at a level necessary for successful performance of duties, supplemented with one (1) year work experience as a Custodian or equivalent position.
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Typical Physical Requirements:
Hearing: Adequate to hear under both quiet and noisy conditions with the ability to distinguish from which direction a sound is coming.
Vision: Adequate to meet DMV criteria for required licensing.
Dexterity & Coordination: Finger dexterity and arm-hand steadiness adequate to operate hand tools and machinery.
Coordination and balance to walk on uneven surfaces or steep inclines.
Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.
Physical Strength: Must have muscle force to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects and the trunk strength and stamina for repeated pushing, pulling, or lifting and moving equipment; for example: Sweeping, mopping, operating electric vacuum cleaner, and buffers; loading and unloading of garbage & trash bags; moving office furniture and equipment weighing up to 300lbs, with assistance.
