General Maintenance Technician

Fulltime, 12-month contract
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma required. Coursework should include mechanical drawing, electricity, woodworking, blueprint reading, science, mathematics, and computers. A certification from a trade school is desirable. An Associates Degree is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum one year in position indicating strong general knowledge of
plumbing, carpentry, lawn care, exterior maintenance, and a general
knowledge construction processes.
Skills:
Demonstrated working knowledge of numerous general repair and
maintenance tasks. Ability to operate a wide array of equipment and tools,
including but not limited to hand tools, custodial equipment and lawn care
equipment safely and competently. Ability to operate forklift, backhoe and
trackhoe. Must possess ability to clean, properly maintain and insure
safety of all tools and equipment utilized. Technical and mechanical
aptitude and the ability to use shop mathematics highly desirable
Must possess current Oklahoma drivers license
JOB SUMMARY: This job requires performing routine and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment under general supervision. Work is executed within established procedures and processes under both verbal and written instructions. A general maintenance worker renovates, repairs and provides upkeep for buildings or the grounds that surround them. General maintenance workers mow grass, repair tools, fix fences, shovel snow and perform a variety of other general maintenance tasks.

replacement of broken floor tiles, base boards, window shades map screens; repair and treatment of structures such as showers, floors, sinks, walls, carpets, roofs; repairing of door hinges, troubleshooting and adjustment of locks, closets, desk locks, locks on cabinets, cleaning of plugged key slots
2.Performs cleaning, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as well as any corrective maintenance of District tools and equipment
3.Change filters on ventilating, heating, and air conditioning units
4.Moving and assisting in transportation of furniture and equipment; Setting up and breaking down cubicle partitions, exercising discretion to identify projects that need higher skilled crafts individual's services
6.Operate tools and equipment following prescribed safety rules and regulations for each tool or equipment; Identifies and notify supervisors of damage, abuse and negligent use of equipment or tools; detects and reports improper operation of equipment and or situations to Director of Maintenance
7.Identify and correct unsafe conditions and practices; Maintains a safe environment while working around students, staff and district facilities
9.Coordinate and prioritize repair tasks, responding in a timely manner to provide appropriate repairs with as little downtime as possible
10.Attend training classes as required by the District, train staff as needed and demonstrate proper use and operation of equipment to staff
11.Demonstrates safe driving practices and safe lifting and carrying practices
ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR:
The General Maintenance Employee is expected to be self motivated and to be productive with little direct supervision. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks, be responsible, reliable, with a task-oriented attitude. Must have a team-oriented approach. General care and cleanliness of district vehicles is expected as well as keeping all district tools and materials clean and secure. Required to follow all safety rules, practice safe work habits and use appropriate safety equipment. Must have the ability to use sound judgment. Must be able to receive and appropriately respond to directions from supervisor. Must be able to deal successfully with changes in job assignment and properly respond to complaints and criticism. Is expected to build and maintain harmonious rapport, open lines of communication, and to work cooperatively with all district personnel and external contacts while achieving job objectives. Must be able to maintain a helpful and courteous attitude at all times.

The General Maintenance Employee must be available to work off shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to emergency calls immediately.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:
Employee must be able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities 95% of the time, must be available to work off shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to emergency calls immediately. All vacation time must be scheduled and approved two (2) weeks prior to time off.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Position requires performance of duties in wet, humid hot and cold conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places and in enclosed areas; exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals possible; most work may be performed outdoors; position has exposure to noise, vibration and risk of electrical shock. Normal hazards can be expected as associated with the maintenance/construction/grounds working environment.
