Housekeeping TechnicianLocation:Johnson County Hospital, Tecumseh, NEDepartment:HousekeepingReports To:Housekeeping SupervisorJob Summary:The Housekeeping Technician is responsible for maintaining the overall orderly, clean and sanitary conditions of the facility, while striving to achieve an overall attractive, pleasant appearance to help provide our patients the best possible atmosphere in which to heal, thereby helping to ensure the functionality of the facility.Duties and Responsibilities:- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the Johnson County Hospital.- Maintains good working relationships with all departments of Johnson County Hospital by providing the highest level of service, management assistance, and open communication.- Works to familiarize themselves with the facility.- Maintains adequate janitorial supply levels throughout the facility and procures replacement supplies from the Hospital storerooms as needed, taking care that those supplies are stored accordingly and any issues with the supplies are reported to Materials Management staff.- Assists in the selection of new janitorial supplies for the facility.- Gains knowledge about the chemicals and cleaning agents used in the facility, including their proper use, application, storage, restriction and disposal.- Helps maintain records of all important departmental data and completes all tasks listed on these documents. These records / documents include, but are not limited to: water monitor checklists, time schedules, floor refinishing records, special cleaning performed, equipment inventory and maintenance records, and divider curtain laundering records.- Possesses or gains the knowledge of the equipment located in the department. Including but not limited to: vacuums, carpet machines, extractors, and buffers.- Gains and demonstrates the proper cleaning techniques of all surfaces cared for by the department and is able to perform all room and floor maintenance tasks while avoiding cross contamination.- Responsible for the maintenance of the department itself and the facility as whole, keeping all areas neat and clean and operational at all time to the best of their ability, notifying Maintenance personnel or other needed parties whenever issues arise should the task be over their capabilities.- Has the ability to recognize and prioritize departmental tasks.- May be called upon for the training of new staff.- Attends committees, subcommittees, departmental, QA, and other management meetings as appropriate and required.- Participates in QA activities as requested.- Stays current and involved in housekeeping trends via ongoing in-service education, on-the-job training, evaluations, and open departmental meetings as well as staying active and maintaining good working relationships with peers.- Reports to work as scheduled or in finds shift coverage from others trained in the operation of the department prior to notifying the Materials Management /Environmental Services Director via text message of changes to the schedule. Failure to find adequate shift coverage may result in the staff member having to report to work as scheduled until other arrangements can be made.- Clocks out whenever conducting personal business when not during meal or break periods, as well as whenever leaving the Hospital grounds when not conducting officially tasked Hospital business.- Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.- Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.- Wears appropriate PPE for the task.- Wears identification while on duty.- And any other duties deemed necessary by Hospital Administration or Supervisor.Dress Code:- Appearance is to be neat, clean, and professional at all times.- No logo T-Shirts, unless said shirts logo is that of the facility.- Shirts or blouses must leave no exposed skin between the shirt and pants and may not have excessively long or loose sleeves.- No blue jeans. Unless a department task deems it prudent and permission has been granted by the Material Management / Environmental Services Director or it is a Hospital wide declared blue jean day.- No article of clothing may be tight, revealing, prohibitive of performing one's job duties, or have holes.- Footwear is to be comfortable and have an enclosed toe.
